Ferdinand Site Large Item Dumpster

Beginning Monday, June 1, 2020 the Dubois County Sanitation Department in conjunction with the Dubois County Solid Waste District is providing a large item dumpster at the newly reorganized Ferdinand location. This box is for the convenience of Dubois County residents and is specifically designed for large household items that ordinarily would not fit in a trash bag.

The availability or length of time this box is provided will be determined by how well the program goes and if it does not create additional problems down the road. With your cooperation, this can become a permanent service. Operations of the large item box are quite simple with just a few regulations. These are as follows:

  • The county will not provide assistance with off-loading any items for the box. the customer loaded the items, the customer will unload them.
  • Cost to deposit any item in the box is 8 stickers per item, regardless of size. “no exceptions”. * If we are still using the cash bucket on opening day, the cost will be $12.00 per item which is the equivalent of 8 stickers.
  • No recyclable items will be deposited into the box.
  • Only household residential waste items will be accepted such as chairs, couches, mattresses, tables, or shelving. any carpet brought in must be properly rolled and bundled so the customer can unload it. There will be a separate fee for each item. No loose items will be accepted without a fee.
  • No construction debris of any kind will be accepted in the box. No items such as shingles, doors with frames, windows with frames, lumber, concrete, bricks or blocks, or hazardous chemicals will be taken.
  • No electrical appliances or anything that at one time came with an electrical cord will be accepted in the box. items such as computers, TV’s, or kitchen appliances like refrigerators, stoves, toasters, blenders, or microwaves will not be accepted.

All customers must understand that when the box is full, they will be required to take their items to another approved location or back home. no items will be left outside of the box.

If you have questions on items that you are not sure will be accepted, please call and ask before you bring these items to the site. the solid waste management district SWMD process at 812-482-7865 or the county sanitation department at 812-482-5505.
