Food Safety Certification and Training
INDIANA CERTIFIED FOOD HANDLER (FOOD PROTECTION MANAGER) REQUIREMENT
Section 118 of the Indiana retail Food Code Title 410 IAC 7-24 requires that each facility have at least one (1) person “a certified food employee who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an accredited program.” These programs must be approved by ANSI and the Conference for Food Protection, and approved certificates should have the following logo:
Such accredited training programs are offered by several companies, some of which are included below. (examples of training programs induce ServSafe®, Prometric, and Safe Food Handler’s Corp.) Our local Purdue extension office may also administer a ServSafe® exam, but does not currently offer the training classes. (contact Jan Dougan at 812.482.1782) If you take a ServSafe® course, make sure to take the “Food Protection Manager” course.

Indiana Restaurant and Lodging Association (ServSafe® Classes offered in Washington, Corydon, Evansville)
Premier Food Safety (Prometric- online course, exam in Evansville or other testing center)
Hoosier Hospitality Consulting (ServSafe® classes offered in Evansville, Bloomington, Corydon)
Purdue University Extension (Serve Safe training and examinations in several location across the state of Indiana)
